#6 ‘Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging’ by Louise Rennison

‘Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging’ by Louise Rennison

This is a very cute read!  My favorite feature was how it was written in diary format.  It is basically 14 year old Georgia’s diary of what is happening with her life.  She is snarky and funny!  I really, really want to check out the movie.  I also am looking forward to checking out the rest of the series.  Obviously this is a VERY easy read, but I think it is worth it.

Would I recommend this book? YES!  I laughed out loud quite a few times!

#5 ‘Strange But True’ by John Searles

‘Strange But True’ by John Searles

This book isn’t quite like anything I normally read.  Phillip has a mysterious fall at his apartment in New York and moves back home with his mom.  He has been gone for nearly five years.  Five years ago his younger brother, Ronnie, was killed on prom night.  One night during his stay at home, Melissa Moody (Ronnie’s girlfriend) shows up claiming she is pregnant with Ronnie’s child.  Throughout the novel Phillip and his mother try to deal with all of the emotions this claim has brought up and they also deal with their family problems.  This book keeps you wanting to turn the page and find out what is really going on.  I enjoyed it for a change of pace in my reading!

Would I recommend this book? Yes!  It is far away from my normal fantasy-esque choices, but I really enjoyed it!  It is quite inexpensive as well!

#4 ‘Tempted’ by PC and Kristin Cast

‘Tempted’ by PC and Kristin Cast

This is the sixth book in the series and I can definitely say it wasn’t my favorite.  I stopped reading about halfway through and read a couple of books in between.  Here is a brief synopsis of the series if you have never heard of it before–Zoey lives in a world where vampires are known and they attend special schools, etc.  One day she is “Marked” and she has a limited time to get to the House of Night (vampire school) before she dies.  It becomes apparent very quickly that there is something special about Zoey and we follow her and her friends through all of their journeys.  I do like this series, but I thought this one and the one before it were kind of boring.  I hope the next one, “Burned,”  will be more entertaining!

Would I recommend this book? If you have read the previous books, yes.

#3 ‘Fuzzy Navel’ by J.A. Konrath

‘Fuzzy Navel’ by J.A. Konrath

If you haven’t read this series yet, you should probably start now.  Just sayin.  They are centered around Lieutenant Jacqueline “Jack” Daniels of the Chicago Police Department.  I don’t want to say too much on the plot here since this is 5th book in the series.  I will say that this is been my favorite one so far.  They are literally laugh out loud funny (I got quite a few odd stares at work) while also having a heavy plot.  You need the comedy to stomach some of the murders Jack deals with.  The characters in these books will really grab your attention and you will be in love!  Please, if you read any of the books I read this year.. give these a try!

Would I recommend this book? Yes, yes, yes, yes!  Seriously… so funny.  Why are you still reading this? Go and read the first book ‘Whiskey Sour’ now!

#2 ‘In the Woods’ by Tana French

‘In the Woods’ by Tana French

A young girl is found murdered in the same woods where a mysterious disappearance of two children 20 years prior took place.  The detective on the case is a man who was also found in those woods 20 years ago clinging to a tree and covered in blood.  The two kids that went missing were his best friends.  He has no memory of the incident and the only person that is aware of him being involved (due to a name change) is his partner.  This is truly an amazing book all the way until the end.  It was seriously disappointing.  Even though the chapters are quite long, it wasn’t difficult to read once you got used to the Irish terms, etc.  There is a sequel of sorts (maybe more like a companion book?) following the partner in a new case that I have yet to read, but am looking forward to!

Would I recommend this book? Yes–if you like detective/psychological books and are aware the the ending isn’t very satisfying.  You can find it for 19 cents used on Amazon 😉

#1 ‘Witch and Wizard’ by James Patterson

Here is goes… my first book of the year.  I chose something light to start the year off right!

‘Witch and Wizard’ by James Patterson.

Witch and Wizard by James Patterson

This is a YA book at 320 pages with each chapter only being a couple of pages… aka a very quick read.  I’m pretty sure this book was read during one shift at work.  Wisty and Whit (sister/brother) are sent away to “prison” for reasons unknown.  They figure out they are a witch and wizard (no spoiler… it’s the title!) and things go on from there.  It seems as though the world is on their shoulders and they are only 15 and 17 (I think)!  This is the first in a new series and I did enjoy it, but it may have lacked a little substance.  It is very promising though!

Would I recommend this book? Yes.  Perhaps get it at your library or pick it up for a “beach read.”

New Year, New Look

Hello kids!  I am back in action this year and my blog will have a new look to it!  It will also be updated much more frequently because frankly I am a HUGE nerd and I am using this to depict my journey of hopefully reading 100 books this year.  Look for a lot of updates shortly considering I have read 17 books already this year (I told you I was a nerd…).

Senior Books

After two months of being home from school, I decided it was time to attempt to unpack.  I’m not too sure I got very far—considering I came across my ‘Senior Book’ and a stack of photos.  A tradition within my lovely chapter (Alpha Tau) of my lovely sorority (Alpha Sigma Tau) is giving graduating sisters a ‘Senior Book.’  Everyone writes a little note and maybe includes some pictures and it is all a good time.  I miss all of my sisters so much and reading this book made me miss you all even more.  I think I enperienced nearly every emotion while re-reading through all my messages. 😦  I can’t wait for our reunion in July! ❤   Tau Love and Mine ❤ *wink, lick*
